According to a Gallup poll, 85% of Americans support the legality of abortion in certain or all circumstances. When Roe v. Wade was overturned, protests erupted nationwide, demonstrating a massive public outcry in favor of safe, legal, and accessible abortion, as well as resounding approval at the voting booth for abortion rights.

With such overwhelming public support, we thought we’d take a fun look at just how popular abortion really is. Here’s a list of things that abortion has a higher approval rating than:

#1: Putting Pineapple on Pizza – 44%

We’re starting with a lighthearted one — more people support the legality of abortion than adding pineapple on pizza! Abortion is as common and normal as pizza, and it even outperforms classic toppings like pepperoni, sausage, and onions. Don’t worry, we’re not here to judge your pizza topping or reproductive health choices.

#2: Dolly Parton – 78%

While we’re surprised that Queen Dolly’s approval isn’t higher, it’s still pretty incredible that abortion is more popular than the iconic singer, actress, and philanthropist. Dolly has done tremendous work in supporting LGBTQ+ rights, racial justice, childhood literacy, and even funded COVID-19 vaccines. It’s safe to say that we’re in good company if legal abortion is more popular than Dolly!

#3: The TV Show Ted Lasso – 84%

Since its debut in 2020, Ted Lasso has captured hearts worldwide. Yet, abortion remains more popular than this feel-good show. Regardless, we’re sure Ted Lasso would be a staunch supporter of abortion rights. He’d likely drive someone to a clinic, help connect them to abortion funds, and offer support every step of the way.

#4: The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – 84%

The MCU has become one of the most successful film franchises in history, but even with its massive popularity, abortion still holds a higher approval rating. If only Thanos could use the Infinity Gauntlet to snap away restrictions on abortion care!

#5: Capitalism – 60%

A shift in tone, but still noteworthy — capitalism doesn’t have approval ratings as high as abortion. Despite being the dominant economic system, capitalism’s popularity continues to decline. Meanwhile, the demand for safe, accessible abortion care remains strong, regardless of the ongoing debates about capitalism’s future.

#6: Congress – 18%

In February 2023, only 18% of Americans expressed approval of the U.S. Congress. This is a low bar, but it’s still worth noting that abortion access enjoys an approval rating more than four times higher than Congress. We must continue pushing our representatives to protect abortion access and stand up for reproductive rights.

#7: Every President, Ever

Presidential approval ratings are historically divisive, with no president ever achieving an approval rating higher than 70.1%. This is significantly lower than abortion’s 85% approval rating, showing just how much more popular the right to abortion is than the highest offices in the country.

#8: The Supreme Court – 40%

The Supreme Court’s approval rating plummeted after the Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade, stripping away federal protections for abortion rights. This decision sparked a public backlash, and it’s clear that the majority of Americans support abortion far more than the highest judicial body in the country.
