Moving Reproductive Health Forward: oyrafem’s 2023 Impact Report

As we reflect on the challenges faced over the past year — from the overturning of Roe v. Wade to threats against mifepristone, one of the most commonly used abortion medications — we are reminded that these obstacles are rooted in politics, not science. Throughout these times, oyrafem has remained a nimble, innovative, and trusted provider of abortion care in the United States. We are proud of the progress made and excited to share our future plans here.

In 2023, individuals across 14 states lost access to abortion care in their communities, while many others encountered new, severe restrictions making it nearly impossible to access this essential healthcare service. In response to these challenges, oyrafem expanded its reach from 12 to 17 states, with a growing number of individuals traveling across state lines to access timely abortion care, both in-person at our health centers and via telehealth. Today, oyrafem has become the largest non-profit provider of trusted telehealth abortion services in the U.S., ensuring individuals have reliable access to abortion care, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We have successfully integrated in-person and at-home care, providing comprehensive options that meet the diverse needs of our clients.

Leveraging global best practices and our commitment to innovation, oyrafem made significant strides in expanding access to medication abortion. Recognizing the potential threat of a ban on mifepristone, we prepared for and enabled the seamless provision of misoprostol alone, ensuring continued access to safe and legal abortion options with medication. This proactive approach reflects our unwavering commitment to maintaining and improving access to reproductive healthcare services despite the shifting legal landscape.
