A Year Anniversary Without Roe: The Impact of the Dobbs Decision

One year ago today, the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization stripped away federal protections for abortion, severely limiting access to this vital healthcare service. While the past year has been marked by significant challenges, it has also galvanized our community in the fight for abortion access and raised awareness about revolutionary options like telehealth abortion care.

As oyrafem reflects on the anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson, we cannot ignore the profound impact it has had on abortion access in the U.S., especially for the 1 in 3 women who lost access to care in their home states. Over the past year, oyrafem has been working tirelessly to increase access by expanding both online and in-center care, now serving 17 states.

The Bottom Line: Some are working relentlessly to ban abortions, but we’re working harder to provide them. Donate today to help us continue this critical fight.

Despite the setbacks of the past year, oyrafem has remained steadfast in providing the best possible abortion care tailored to each person’s unique needs. We’ve lowered the price point for online care ($0-$399, with most paying $225), while offering compassionate support throughout the entire process. In the wake of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, more individuals are discovering the availability and effectiveness of medication abortion, further expanding their options.

Telehealth Abortion Care: A Vital Access Point

Telehealth abortion care has become more crucial than ever, offering people the ability to access abortion services from the comfort and privacy of their own homes. While oyrafem has provided online abortion care since 2019, we recently expanded our services with Immediate Evaluations, making care available 24/7. By broadening the range of options available, oyrafem is meeting people where they are, empowering them to choose the abortion experience that best suits their needs.

But even though the state of abortion care remains uncertain, oyrafem is more dedicated than ever to providing care and fighting to ensure access. We believe that everyone has the right to make decisions about their body and their future, free from political interference or pressure from anti-abortion activists.

Challenges and Resilience in a Difficult Year

The past year has been particularly difficult for abortion providers and seekers, as the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling has emboldened anti-abortion extremists. Attacks on abortion, including restrictions on the medication mifepristone and a wave of new state regulations, have significantly reduced available abortion services, leading to the permanent closure of many clinics that have served communities for decades.

One client’s experience with oyrafem illustrates the importance of accessible abortion care now more than ever:

“In the wake of today’s political climate, it has been extremely hard to seek accommodations for abortions. But I am so glad I was able to find a clinic as trustworthy, confidential, and supportive as oyrafem. oyrafem was my saving grace, and they were so kind throughout my entire process… The doctor was extremely sweet and patient with me. Everyone I spoke to explained the procedure thoroughly and made sure all my questions were answered. I left feeling confident in my knowledge (as I chose the medical route) to complete the steps at home. Thank you so much, oyrafem, for helping me make this very difficult decision less scary and for having such amazing staff.”

Support the Fight

But oyrafem cannot do this work alone. The past year has shown us just how vital the support of our community and donors is, and we are deeply grateful for it. Your donations make it possible for us to continue providing abortion care to those who need it.
